How to manage the medical portion of the worker's compensation claim including;

When to know if an employee is being treated by the right medical provider

How to know when you may need to advocate for an Independent Medical Examination.

When an employee is at maximum medical improvement (MMI) so the claim can be closed.

How to advocate for segregating out pre-existing medical conditions.

How to develop a "plan of action" for each claim to resolve the claim (claim closure.

Employers in the State of Washington are paying higher worker compensation premiums. Many employers are frustrated with these costs and believe there is little they can do to control them. This course will teach two crucial skills that can help you reduce your worker compensation costs whether your company is enrolled in the state fund, in a retrospective program or is self-insured for worker compensation exposures.

Finance directors, human resource managers, and worker compensation claims managers and administrators.

Workshop Presenter

Cathy Reineke has been a Risk Manager in the public, non-profit and private sectors for over 20 years. In those roles, she has managed a self-insured worker's compensation program (Seattle Schools), a retrospective program for a suspended scaffold company, and a high deductible program for a multi-state/multi-country retailer. She is the author of "A Guide To Worker's Compensation Claims - Employer Claims Manual". Each participant will receive a copy of this guide which will be used during the training.

Members and Non-Members

Members are determined to be employees of transportation systems providing services to the public in Washington State and members of the partner organizations that make-up the Coalition. The partners are: Washington State Department of Transportation, Washington State Transit Association, Community Transportation Association of the Northwest, Washington State Transit Insurance Pool, and Eastern Washington University Northwest Tribal Technical Assistance Program.

Such transportation systems include any combination of services, facilities, and infrastructure related to transit, special needs transportation, ridesharing, airport shuttles, passenger rail, ferries, and taxi services. Individuals who do not work for a transportation system as defined above are considered non-members and will be charged an additional $25 per day training fee.

Location and Schedule

This class will be held at in Vancounver located in the Rose Besserman room at C-Tran's Fishers Landing Transit Center, 3510 SE 164th Ave., Vancouver, WA. The workshop will begin at 8:30 am and run until 5:00 pm. An hour and half lunch break will begin at 12:00. Lunch will be on your own.

Take exit 27 for WA-14 W toward City Center/Camas
Keep left at the fork, follow signs for WA-14 E/Camas and merge onto WA-14 E
Take exit 8 for SE 164th Ave

Make a U-turn at SE 34th St

Take I-84 W toward The Dalles
Take exit 9 on the left for I-205 N/I-205 S toward Seattle/Salem
Keep right at the fork to continue toward I-205 N and merge onto I-205 N Entering Washington
Take exit 27 toward Camas
Merge onto WA-14 E
Take exit 8 for SE 164th Ave
Turn left at SE 164th Ave
Make a U-turn at SE 34th St
Destination will be on the right

Workshop Cancellation Policy

You may cancel your workshop registration without penalty, up to, July 19, 2010

Cancellations made on or later than July 20, 2010 will be charged the full workshop fee. The Training Coalition may cancel the class if on July 20, 2010 , fewer than 12 people are registered for the course. If the Training Coalition cancels the course, participants will receive a complete refund.
